Alumni

We want to hear from you!

There is a saying at Outward Bound – "once an Outward Bounder, always an Outward Bounder." We know that Outward Bound is a life changing experience and that lifelong friendships form on course.

Since 1956 there have been over 250 000 participants who have experienced Outward Bound in Australia and over 4000 staff members helping them on their journey. Nothing pleases us more than hearing tales of adventure and triumph from our alumni.

This section of the website is for you, our old friends - we urge you to reconnect with us. Share your stories, your photos and your thoughts and we will publish them on the website.

First Outward Bounders reconnect after more than 50 years

It really is true what they say, 'Once an Outward Bounder, always an Outward Bounder!'

It has been a lifetime since the first group of Outward Bounders pulled on their boots, packed their bags and set off to explore the Narrabeen region of New South Wales back in 1956. Full of determination, the 45 young participants embarked on a month long journey, pushing themselves beyond their self imposed limits.

A Family Affair

jerringlionsstory

When Cliff Roberts joined the group of four rowing a 2 ton lifeboat containing the entire 32 members of his 1960 Classic Challenge Course out the mouth of the tidal Hawkesbury River, to Lion Island, he never imagined that, almost 50 years later, he would be the grandfather of what is fast becoming an Outward Bound family! A variation on today's challenge by choice, 1960 offered twenty-six days of tough discipline that saw this 18 year old transformed into a life-long fan and strong advocate of the organisation he now champions. A primary driving force behind the Gerringong Lions Club Navigator Course sponsorship, he is also the instigator of what he hopes will ultimately become a family tradition.
