Boral

BoralOutward Bound has been providing a six-day Leadership Experience as part of the Boral Emerging Leaders Program since 2003. In that time over 120 Boral staff have participated in this program. We recently asked Boral’s General Manager Learning and Organisational Development Michael Craner of the value the Outward Bound Leadership Experience provides. Michael said:

"Outward Bound’s leadership programs take people outside their comfort zone, require people to be courageous and to consider unusual situations and make decisions. This is even more like the situations leaders find themselves in at work during these difficult economic times. The Outward Bound Leadership Experience has played an important part in Boral’s overall process for over 5 years, with 2 programs per year. To date over 120 Boral leaders have grown through their exposure to Outward Bound".

ca ACT Brumbies

Outward Bound delivered a five-day program for the ACT Brumbies as part of their 2009 Season preparation.Following four weeks of drills, skills work, weights and fitness, a group of 33 players, 10 staff and three sponsors headed for Outward Bound’s National Centre in Namadgi National Park, Tharwa, where they experienced a series of physical, team-building and leadership exercises. The program included Challenge Ropes Course on the largest off-ground ropes course in the Southern Hemisphere, abseiling, set-up and utilisation of a team flying fox, several expeditions and a 25-kilometre final day hike.>

CA Brumbies Head Coach – and former Outward Bound instructor – Andy Friend says the Outward Bound experience is a profound one that has potential life-changing benefits.

“We’ve had a very rewarding block of skills and fitness work over the past month, and this week is about personal goal-setting, team building and getting to know each other away from a football environment. This camp will throw up some physical and psychological challenges along the way that will take these guys out of their comfort zones. But this is a great opportunity for us test ourselves in an unfamiliar environment, take control of these situations and show some character which can only benefit us as we go forward as a team.Speaking from my own time with Outward Bound, this is an invaluable experience for the team that will not only help bond these guys but will also teach them a lot about themselves.”

Country Fire Authority

CFA LogoOutward Bound have been delivering one of the Country Fire Authorities key leadership programs since 1994. Each year, a group of leading volunteers are selected to participate in the program. Since 1994 over 575 CFA volunteers have been Outward Bound. The program involves two stages. The first is a three-day personal development workshop at CFA Headquarters delivered by Carol Fox focusing on leadership, communication, building teams and influencing others. This workshop is followed by a classic eight-day Outward Bound program where the volunteers can put the various models and concepts into action.

Walter Turnbull

Following the success of the Brumbies program, twenty Senior Managers from Walter Turnbull will participate in a five-day Outward Bound Team and Leadership Development program.
