"Leadership is the process by which a person exerts influence over other people and inspires, motivates and directs their activities to achieve organisational goals". This is text-book stuff that without the right experience and self-understanding  will be little more than words on a page. The point is, leadership does not happen in a vacuum. Leadership happens when people interact. So, theory classes and text-books are ineffective mentors in isolation.

Outward Bound knows that leadership development is a dynamic process that doesn't come out of a black-box and isn't secret or mystical. Rather, becoming a leader is an honorable journey that anyone can choose to take, learning the lessons and developing the resources all along the way.

Outward Bound programs are visceral. Participants will not just 'read the book', keep a copy of the manual and get a certificate on their wall for reference. We will move well beyond intellectual paradigms and artificial scenarios and 'make it real'.

Outward Bound leadership development programs can heighten self awareness and awareness of others, define personal values, highlight the importance of life-balance, explore links between individuals, motives and drives, identify keys or triggers for future learning and change, make sense of 'human versus organisation' conflicts, and explore the impacts of organisational change, team effectiveness and motivation.
