School Courses - more than just a school camp!
School Outdoor Education courses are specially designed in consultation with the school to complement and reinforce the school's curriculum and philosophy. Programs are based on guided discovery learning and are aimed at the personal development of each student while meeting the specific goals set by the school. For some schools the Outward Bound experience has formed an integral part of the school's personal development and outdoor education program for over 20 years.
Aims of a school course may include: self discovery, personal achievements, teamwork, cooperation, awareness of others, increased responsibility, Problem solving, and an appreciation of the environment.
We also offer specific Leadership programs for older students who wish to develop their leadership skills, or students becoming school captains or prefects etc.
School courses are journey based and typically range between 7-12 days, for the year levels 9 - 12 and run in several locations across Australia. Our highly trained and experienced staff deliver a custom designed program using experiential teaching techniques and incorporating challenging activities and initiatives into the framework of the course.
Some of the activities may include: expeditioning, Ropes Course (high and low), abseiling, rockclimbing, rafting and/or raft-building, canoeing, navigating, bushcooking, Solo, and team building games and initiatives.
Benefits to the Student
An Outward Bound program is a unique and memorable growth experience, which provides students with numerous opportunities to challenge their own perceptions of themselves and understanding of others.
The program style fosters development of social skills including communication, teamwork, responsibility and initiative, tolerance, compassion, and an understanding of leadership roles. This is especially important during the transition from youth to adulthood. Through real life experiences, the student is able to overcome real challenges and reach their potential, gaining more insight into themselves and others.
Equally as important the program is full of action and fun activities to make learning even more enjoyable.
